About
We’re a family foundation and one of the largest funders in the region and the country. Our focus is on connecting more people to more opportunities in the Philadelphia region.
Our Mission
The William Penn Foundation is committed to expanding access to resources and opportunities that promote a more vital and just city and region for all.
Our History
We started as the Phoebe Waterman Foundation in 1945 to support medical and educational institutions and help children. We became the William Penn Foundation in 1974 with an expanded range of grantmaking interests. Overall, for nearly 80 years, we’ve been committed to improving the quality of life for the people of the Philadelphia region.
Meet Our Team
The Foundation's team represents a diversity of thought and experience. We recognize that the best ideas emerge from collaborating within communities and with the engagement and support of the people who live there.
Collaborate with Us
One of the best ways we can advance our mission is to work with other funders and organizations who share our commitment to creating more opportunity for more people. Learn about the different ways we can make an impact together.
